Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage is for anyone with sore, tight or recuperating injuries.  It was initially created for athletes in order to prepare them for a sporting event, speed up recovery in between events and aid with any post-event trauma which may have been sustained.  However it can be used for anyone suffering from injury, stiffness or chronic pain.

Many of my clients book in for a back, neck and shoulder massage as those are the areas which tend to suffer the most.

What Is Sports Massage Therapy?

Sports massage uses a combination of techniques, including deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, muscle energy work and stretching.  This combination of specific treatments helps bring the musculo-skeletal system back into balance and good health.  Sports massage helps to get rid of stiffness in your muscles and joints.  It breaks down knotty muscles (adhesions). It reduces the risk of injury due to prolonged activity or inactivity.  Massage improves flexibility and helps to clear toxins from the body.

Following the massage I may recommend exercises and stretches to be done at home.  As with all massages it is important that you drink plenty of water following your treatment.  This is to flush out the metabolic waste which we will have disturbed in your body during the massage.

What To Expect During Sports Massage

A sports massage is generally area-specific instead of being a full-body massage such as the Swedish or hot stone therapies. When you arrive for your consultation I will analyse your posture, assess your range of motion of the problem area to help to find out if there are underlying reasons why you may have incurred an injury, tenderness, inflammation.  We’ll discuss what you want to achieve from the massage and ensure that you leave the therapy room a happy client.

Consultation and Treatment

The first session lasts approximately 15 minutes longer than following sessions. It will include a free initial consultation during which I will ask you some health and lifestyle questions in order to provide you with a relevant and effective treatment. You will always be covered with towels, except for the specific part of the body being worked upon. I will take the utmost care to ensure you feel comfortable and at ease during your treatment.  Please refer to the pricing page and FAQs page for further information.
